Concert: July 30 in Springwood

Here are the details of our upcoming concert, presented by the Penrith Classical Guitar Club, and the Sydney Classical Guitar Society.

Venue: Springwood Presbyterian Church (160 Macquarie Rd, Springwood)
Concert starts at 14:00
Classical guitarists in Sydney belong to a close-knit community: usually we are involved either with the Sydney Classical Guitar Society, or are part of the Penrith Classical Guitar Club (or both!). Each group is equally as passionate and willing to showcase the classical guitar and its music. For this concert, we come together to present a varied program of music written or arranged for the guitar, or multiple guitars.
Spotlighted in this program is music by local composer Mitchell Newton, with his arrangements of Ravel and Castelnuovo-Tedesco, plus the premiere of a newly-commissioned work: Suite for Guitar Ensemble.
We hope to see you there!

Sydney Eisteddfod

The Sydney Eisteddfod’s entries close on Monday Mach 13 (late fees apply after this date). Please see the below links to the categories for classical guitar:

If you have never played in an Eisteddfod or competition before, it’s worth the try. There is no need to be caught up with whether you will gain a prize or not, but think of it as a concert where a variety of performers display their best work. As a performer in this sort of event, you really benefit from your preparation leading up to it.

I hope to see you there!

2016 Meeting and Christmas party

We are pleased to announce that we have had three years of meetings in Penrith. So as usual, instead of the December meeting, we will be having a combined meeting and Christmas party at the residence of one of our members. This would involve the usual playing session and ensemble followed by extended time for food and social activity. All are welcome.
Please note: the date of this gathering is different from usual:

Sunday, December 4, at 15:00.
Please RSVP through the “Contact Us” form on our website, and you will receive more details.

You are encouraged to bring a plate of food to share; we usually have a barbeque, so there are plenty of options to bring salads, side dishes, or deserts.
There will be no meeting on Saturday December 10; or in January 2017. Next year’s meetings start February 11.

Guest performers: trio & duo this Saturday

Dear guitarists,

I’ve just received news that we have a few guest performers joining our meeting this Saturday: a guitar trio performing a new work written for them, and also a duet performing on 11-string guitars. We’ll still have time for the usual performing and ensemble, so bring your guitars and also invite your friends to the mini-concert. See you at 15:00.
